Understanding Stress
May 19, 2021Let’s talk about STRESS!
Here is our TOP 10 LIST of why understanding the Stress Response System is critical to being in control of your feelings:
-
The Stress Response System is how our brain processes information - and there is information coming in ALL. THE. TIME.
-
Stress is a part of life - no if’s, and’s, or but’s about it.
-
We need to experience stress in small, tolerable doses so our Stress Response System can become calibrated. (Parents this is why it’s 100% to let your kids be frustrated, bored, etc. as you lovingly guide them through this experience).
-
Stressor = the information your brain has to process. This information can come in from your external and internal worlds.
-
Stress is how you experience stressors. Low stress is where we ideally want to be. Moderate levels are manageable but not ideal or sustainable, and high stress we want to move way from ASAP!
-
Your stress level can stem from stressors that are: intense, chronic, intense AND chronic.
-
You might call stress by other names such as anxiety, depression, frustration, being triggered, angry, etc.
-
Just because you CAN manage high levels of stress doesn’t mean you SHOULD. Stress can lead to long term problems such as impairments in functioning and quality of life issues, as well as mental and physical illness.
-
Once you understand the system, coping becomes easier - because you know why you are doing what you are doing!
-
Because you are worth it ❤️
